The hunting blind, to the firing line of a competition, some rifle cartridges have acquired the status as being able to strike exactly where they are aimed, time after time. These rounds are a combination of forgiving ballistics, good flight characteristics and have the ability to be used with a variety of rifles. Both were created decades ago or developed in recent years, but each of them has proved that they can create tight groups in real-life conditions, not only in tests. The following is a closer examination of nine cartridges that have remained an eternal source of confidence to the hunters, target shooters and accuracy marksmen.

1. .308 Winchester
The .308 Winchester balances described as the Goldilocks of rifle cartridges balance manageable recoil, dependable accuracy, and adequate power to meet most game. It works well in a variety of barrel lengths and rifle platforms and is a multi-purpose rifle in both the field and range. Much heavy loads, like 168- and 175-grain BTHP, are still the standards of factory accuracy.

2. 6.5 Creedmoor
The 6.5 Creedmoor was specifically designed to be used in the long-range accuracy. Its bullets with a high ballistic coefficient, effective case design, and light recoil have made it popular in the areas of precision rifle competition. It can withstand stability out to 1,000 yards, provide a flat trajectory and minimize wind drift without the pain and the punishment of magnum recoil.

3. .223 Remington / 5.56 NATO
The .223 Remington along with its equivalent, the 5.56 NATO, is known to fire with very minimal recoil and be very adaptable in the hands of the right barrels and the right twist rates. Match loads are also excellent in training and competition and in varmint control and experienced gunmen have extended this small caliber round to unexpected ranges on metallic targets.

4. .243 Winchester
The .243 Winchester has a flat shooting trajectory and a smooth recoil, making it a natural caliber to be used by those that need without taking heavy recoil yet need to get the accuracy. It glistens in the robust bolt-action rifles, and they provide tight groups to the new and experienced marksmen. Its consistent wind behavior contributes to its use in medium-game hunting and in target shooting.

5. 6mm ARC
The 6mm ARC was developed to achieve longer effective range of AR-15 platform by using high-BC bullets and to remain supersonic far beyond 1,000 yards. In field usage, it has been shown to drop and drift less than .223 Remington at similar range, and also provides less than MOA accuracy. It has been proven effective at 400 yards against game in the size of deer.

6. .270 Winchester
The .270 Winchester had been a reliable hunting round since 1925 due to its flat-shooting and constant accuracy. It can easily harvest big game at long distances and continues to be popular with hunters who appreciate the ability to easily choose their loads and achieve a consistent performance without a lot of tuning.

7. 6.5 PRC
The 6.5 Precision Rifle Cartridge is based on the design of the Creedmoor, and it provided the cartridge with velocity and energy necessary to shoot at extreme ranges. It is quite accurate and less wind drift and at mid to long ranges, can outperform some magnum cartridges with less recoil. This gives it a good option to those who hunt bigger game at longer distances.

8. .22 LR (Match-Grade)
Although it is not a long-range powerhouse, match-grade.22 LR ammunition in a good rifle can achieve a great level of precision over short to moderate distances. A range of subsonic loads 1,066 to 1,100 fps is non-transonic and used by competitive rimfire shooters. It is a cheap method of perfecting the basics of marksmanship.

9. 7mm Remington Magnum
The 7mm Remington Magnum, when combined with magnum reach, does not have any problems when using heavy, aerodynamic bullets. The possibility of modern loadings has revealed the worst of its potential, providing flat trajectories and reliable accuracy in a wide range of hunting conditions. It is also still one of the most useful long-range hunting cartridges.
All these cartridges have been tested and have been found to be very useful in providing real-life competitiveness. Whether it is ethical hunting, a competition, or development of skills, they provide a combination of performance and reliability that keeps on eliciting trust among the shooters in the world.
